While growing up, he played football and his dream was to become the next Cristiano Ronaldo. But, a knee injury put a stop to his dreams.

In addition to football, Damson also played rugby. In 2002, he got the opportunity to meet Queen Elizabeth II when his team was invited to her Golden Jubilee celebrations.

He rose to prominence playing the ambitious 19-year-old American drug dealer Franklin Saint in the television series Snowfall for 6 seasons from 2017 until 2023. For his role, he trained with rapper WC to perfect the American accent and capture specific mannerisms of South Central Los Angeles where his character is based in. Furthermore, his performance was met with rave reviews with TV Guide‘s Malcolm Venable calling Idris “nothing short of captivating.”
