David Cameron and wife Samantha's sun-soaked Easter holiday on Spanish island Lanzarote

David Cameron and his wife Samantha have chosen Spanish island Lanzarote for their family Easter holiday. The Prime Minister, 47, is spending the break in a low-key resort in Playa Blanca on the southern tip of the island with his wife Samantha and their three children Nancy, Arthur and Florence. With temperatures of 22°C and white sand beaches at their fingertips, the couple look to be getting into sunny holiday mode, as they were pictured sipping coffee on a cafe terrace by the beach in the popular resort of Teguise, which was once the capital of the island.

David, whose fashion faux pas have prompted critics to speak up in the past, wore a pair of beige shorts and matching slip-on loafers along with a navy shirt, with the sleeves rolled up to his elbows.

His wife, meanwhile, was elegant in a black maxi dress and emerald green cardigan. She somewhat matched her hubby with beige open-toe heels.

The Camerons are expected to spend six days on the volcanic island in a £200-a-night restored 18th century farmhouse, situated in a rural part of the island a few miles from the coast and away from the main resorts.

Playa Mujeres is situated on the southern tip of Lanzarote

The most eastern Canary Island, Lanzarote is the perfect family getaway. Boasting spectacular volcanic landscapes, white sandy beaches and Spanish sunshine, the island is also becoming increasingly renowned for acitivies such as surfing, windsurfing, kiteboarding and paddleboarding, as well as cycling and hiking.

The volcanic rocks, Los Hervidores, were formed as a result of the solidification of lava and erosion

Day trips are on the cards too – the fouth largest of the Canary islands is home to an other-worldly moonscape that is most vivid at Timanfaya National Park, also known as the or Fire Mountains.More volcanic landscape can be found along the volcanic rocky coast at . Here, a labyrinth of underwater caves filled by the sea's waves creates an amazing display where it appears that the sea is bubbling and boiling in a series of geysers. The Prime Minister and his wife have opted to stay in Playa Blanca – long ago a small fishing village and now Lanzarote's second most popular resort. With a great choice of restaurants, cafes, as well as a buzzing nightlife, the pair will no doubt charge their batteries in time for their return to the UK on Good Friday.
